KURKUSOL BURAPAKLAJON : FACTORS RELATED TO FATIGUE AMONG WORKERS IN MAKING REED MATS : A CASE STUDY OF BANG S R A KAO REED MATS CENTER, L A EM SIN G DISTRICT, CHANTABURI PROVINCE MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HEALTH. SURINDRA RAJABHA T UNIVERSITY. ACADEMIC YEAR 2017 . THESIS ADVISORS : ASSISTANT PROFESSOR DR. PRADUB REANPRAYOON AND DR.PATT A RAPO L T H ONGNUM . 104 P . ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to : 1) study fact ors relating to making reed mat worker fatigue and 2) study of fatigue problems and fa tigue levels of making reed mat workers. This cross sectional quantitative research was studied at Bang Sra Kao Reed Mats Center, Laem Sing district, Chantaburi province as a case study. There were 115 participants in this study. Research tools of this study consisted of a questionnaire, abnormal index (AI) test being equal to the reliability of 0.714, and automatic blood pressure monitor. The statistics used for data analysis consisted of percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Bivariate and Fisher’s Exact Correlation Test. The study found that: 1. According to individual factors, the study showed that most workers were female (75.65%) with 58 years old in average. Most of them were married (68.70%) and had a second career (63.48%). 2. According to health problems factors, the most workers had hypertension (38.26%) but never suffered a severe accident or occupational injury before making reed mats (87.83%). 3. According to occu

pational factors, most workers were did not have to much exert their power; do not use much focus on their eyes a long time. There were the effects of tightened Bone, joint and muscle pain, but there was no cause tremendous stress. And, there was sitting, rather than standing and the use of hand to squeeze an exerted workpiece . There was a major movement using arms to raise the not-bulky workpiece ; however, the raising post must be above the shoulders or place below the knee by lifting away from the body. 4. According to characteristics by fatigue, most workers felt fatigue sometimes after working (57.39%), painful or discomfort in various parts of the body (91.30%). If there are signs of fatigue during work hours, after it breaks, it will be disappear. Movement while working the organs used were the lower arm, hand/wrist and elbow on a regular basis. Then, the occupation of reed mat weaving is independent, but must be responsible. 5. According to fatigue of workers, the study revealed that there were few tolerable problems relating to fatigue (75.65%) basing on the 8 dimensions of abnormal index (AI). In addition, the study showed that the factors which had a relationship with fatigue of reed mat workers at .05 statistically significant level consisted of : Individual age (r = -.202 p< .05); for working environment factors: the general condition, ( 2 = 5.702 p< .05), the motion work ( 2 = 5.931 p< .05) , the lifting of a chunky or bulky things ( 2 = 12.720 p<.01) , and the lifting away from the body ( 2 = 9.550 p< .01). For the factors of characteristic stiffness , painful elbow on the right in the arm ( 2 = 7.846 p< .05), lower right ( 2 = 7.812 p< .05), calf right ( 2 = 5.432 p< .05), moving of the elbow ( 2 = 6.883 p< .05) , and calf ( 2 = 4.524 p< .05). Other factors had no relationship with fatigue. In summary, it would be said that if there is the use of ergonomic principles as a major figure in working reed mats, it will help to decrease fatigue of workers and prevent accidents and health problems.
