LUKKHANA WORAPONGPAT : THE EFFECT OF CHANTING AND DHAMMA REVIEW PROGRAM WITH BUDDHIST MEDICINE ON STRESS LEVELS OF FEMALE PRISONERS IN NAKHON PHANOM CENTRAL PRISON AT NAKHON PHANOM PROVINCE. MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAM IN PUBLIC HEALTH, SURIN RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY. ACADEMIC YEAR 2017. ADVISOR : DR.UNNOP NAPTHUETRONG AND DR.ATIPORN THONGLAW 167 P. ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of a chanting and dhamma review program with Buddhist medicine on stress levels of female prisoners. This research was pre-experimental research, using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample group comprised 30 female prisoners from the Nakhon Phanom Central Prison , Nakhon Phanom province. The participants were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria established by the researchers. The participants were measured the stress level at the pretest using the stress measurement method called SPST-20 by Mental Health Department. For four weeks and seven days a week , they participated in the chanting and dhamma review program with Buddhist medicine. After the treatment, they were given a posttest, which was identical to the pretest. The obtained data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean score, and standard deviation. The pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using a paired sample t-test, at the level of .05. The results revealed that : 1. ment, the level of the stress at the posttest was also at a high level (X= 44.33 , S.D. = 9.37) 2. The comparison between the pretest and posttest scores revealed that the stress level of female prisoners reduced significantly after the treatment, p < .05 In conclusion, based on the findings of the study, the chanting and dhamma review program with Buddhist medicine could help reduce female prisoners’stress. Therefore, female prisoners should be encouraged to practice chanting and dhamma review daily to reduce stress and mental sufferings and to increase their sustainable happiness.
